New Year’s Day marks the first day of the year in the Gregorian calendar. It is a public holiday worldwide, with the exception of Israel. Typically when the clock strikes midnight on the first of January, there are fireworks and huge celebrations that are broadcast live on many television channels throughout the world to show the various celebrations.
